In our continuous efforts to bring forward diverse narratives to local stages, TODOS Productions is thrilled to announce NewfoundLanded (working title), a project that puts the stories of immigrants and refugees across the province right and centre.

During the months of February and March, Santiago Guzmán (Mexico/St. John’s-based theatremaker) and Vanessa Cardoso (multidisciplinary artist from Brazil) will host online-interviews with 40 individuals with the goal of collecting stories that will serve as source material for the writing of a new dramatic script, now tentatively titled NewfoundLanded.

The content of the script will inherently be shaped by the research, and questions will be tailored to explore universal themes such as love, family, friendship, nature, adaptability, rejection, faith, heritage, etc.
Once the interviews are completed, they will be transcribed by Nora Barker and Robyn Huxter, members of TODOS Productions, and then passed on to a group of local Immigrant writers, led by Santiago Guzmán, to craft a script.

NewfoundLanded (working title) will bring these unheard stories to the stage; will create a platform for immigrants’ and refugees’ voices in the province to be heard, celebrated, and acknowledged; and will honour the vibrant, colourful, and diverse Newfoundland and Labrador of today.

Please note:
  • A small honorarium will be offered to each interviewee for their time;
  • Interviews will be recorded for the purposes of research;
  • We anticipate a large number of interview requests, therefore we will only be selecting 40 applicants;
  • For those areas where accessing a stable internet connection is a challenge, TODOS Productions is more than willing to find other ways to interview immigrants and refugees in these areas (conference calls, video recording, written interviews, etc.)

- LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT -

TODOS Productions operates from St. John’s, Ktaqmkuk (colonially known as Newfoundland) and Labrador. We acknowledge Ktaqmkuk as the unceded and ancestral territory of the Beothuk and the Mi’kmaq; and Labrador as the traditional homelands of the Innu of Nitassinan, Inuit of Nunatsiavut, and the Inuit of NunatuKavut. We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come.
We recognize that it is our duty to learn about the caretakers of this province who have been looking after the land and water before us, and we strive to work consciously and respectfully with them to support one another in solidarity and love.
